Worklane frequently asked questions
Getting started
What is Worklane?
Worklane is an escrow-backed freelance marketplace. A customer posts a project, freelancers submit proposals, and the customer funds escrow when they accept one. The freelancer delivers the work, the customer approves it, and the freelancer is paid — so money only changes hands once the work is done.
How do I post a project?
Customers create a project with a description, a budget (a fixed price or an hourly rate), a category and a deadline. Once it’s published, freelancers can find it and send you proposals to review. On a fixed-price project a proposal is one total for the job; on an hourly project the freelancer proposes a rate and the number of hours, and the total is rate × hours. Either way, that total is what goes into escrow.
How does bidding work?
Freelancers submit a proposal with a bid amount. As the customer, you review the proposals you receive and accept the one you want to work with — that’s what starts the project.
Payments & escrow
What is escrow?
When a customer accepts a proposal, they fund escrow. The money is held safely and is only released to the freelancer once the customer approves the delivered work. Neither side is left exposed while the work is in progress.
What is the platform fee?
Worklane charges a 10% platform fee on the project value. The freelancer receives the remaining 90%.
Which currencies can I use?
A customer publishes a project in EUR, USD or GBP — whichever the currency switcher is on at the moment they publish it. That currency then belongs to the project: it is what the budget means, and every bid on that project is quoted, recorded and compared in it. On the project page you see both figures in that currency — the budget, and the amount you are asked to bid — whichever currency you are reading the site in.
The currency switcher is a display preference, and it moves the figures that are simply euros: freelancer hourly rates, your balances and earnings, what a finished project cost, the platform fee and the escrow ledger are restated in the currency you pick, at today’s rate. It does not restate a project’s budget or a bid — those carry the currency of the deal and read the same on every screen that shows them, your dashboard included. And it never changes what is charged — escrow, refunds and payouts always settle in EUR, at the exchange rate recorded when the deal was made.
Delivery & getting paid
How is delivered work reviewed?
The freelancer submits the completed work. The customer then reviews the delivery and either Approves it — which releases the escrowed payment — or chooses Reject / Request changes to send it back for a revision.
How do freelancers get paid?
Earnings accrue to the freelancer’s balance after a project completes. The freelancer then requests a withdrawal, which is paid out after identity verification.
What is identity verification (KYC)?
Before their first withdrawal, a freelancer completes identity verification — submitting an ID document and a utility bill for manual review. This keeps payouts secure and accountable.
Community & account
How do reviews and ratings work?
After a project completes, the customer can leave a rating and a written review for the freelancer they worked with.
How does messaging work?
You can message a freelancer directly from their profile. Once an order begins, both parties can message each other to coordinate the work.
How do I manage my account?
From your profile you can change your password, upload an avatar, or delete your account.
