Terms of Service
Last updated:
These terms govern your use of Worklane, an escrow-backed marketplace connecting customers with freelancers. By creating an account you agree to the terms below.
1. Introduction
Worklane is operated by Worklane Ltd., which provides a platform where customers post projects and freelancers submit proposals to complete them. We are not a party to the agreements formed between customers and freelancers; we provide the tools, escrow, and dispute support that make those agreements safer.
These terms apply to everyone who accesses Worklane, whether or not you hold an account. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.
2. User Accounts
To transact on Worklane you must register an account and choose a role — customer or freelancer. You are responsible for the accuracy of your details and for keeping your credentials confidential.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction. One person or organisation may hold one account unless we agree otherwise in writing.
Account security
Notify us immediately of any unauthorised use. We may suspend accounts that show signs of compromise while we investigate.
3. Services
Worklane offers project posting, proposals, messaging, escrow funding, and payout release. Features may change as we improve the platform. We aim to give reasonable notice before removing functionality you rely on.
- Customers may post projects, review proposals, and accept a freelancer.
- Freelancers may browse projects, submit proposals, and deliver work.
- Both parties may communicate through the platform and raise disputes.
4. Payments & Escrow
When a customer hires a freelancer, the agreed amount is charged and held in escrow. Funds are released to the freelancer only when the customer approves the completed work, or when a dispute is resolved in the freelancer’s favour.
Card payments are processed by our payment partner. Worklane never stores your full card number. Prices are displayed in €, $, or £ depending on your selected display currency.
| Stage | Who holds the funds | When released |
|---|---|---|
| Proposal accepted | Customer’s card charged | Immediately into escrow |
| Work in progress | Worklane escrow | On customer approval |
| Dispute raised | Worklane escrow | On resolution |
Refund & Dispute Policy
If you are unsatisfied with a completed project, you may open a dispute within 14 days of payment release. Worklane reviews all disputes and may issue a full or partial refund at our discretion. For refund requests, please contact support with your project details. Disputes between customers and freelancers are resolved by Worklane mediation.
5. Prohibited Content
You may not post content that is unlawful, infringes others’ rights, or attempts to move transactions off-platform to avoid escrow and fees. We may remove content and suspend accounts that breach these rules.
- No illegal, fraudulent, or deceptive activity.
- No harassment, hate speech, or discriminatory conduct.
- No circumvention of the escrow or payment system.
6. Privacy
We process personal data as described in our Privacy Policy. This includes the information you provide, data generated as you use the platform, and limited data from our payment partner needed to operate escrow.
You can request access to or deletion of your data at any time, subject to legal retention requirements.
7. Termination
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these terms, for legal reasons, or to protect the platform and its users. Funds already in escrow are handled according to Section 4 even after termination.
8. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Worklane is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved in the competent courts of that jurisdiction unless local consumer law provides otherwise.
